SBS Polymer Additive (Thermoplastic Elastomer Bitumen Modifier)
SBS Polymer Additive is a thermoplastic elastomer built from styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS) linear block copolymer, used to improve the elasticity and temperature performance of bitumen in polymer-modified bitumen (PMB) production.
Produced by block polymerization of styrene and butadiene in hydrocarbon solution in the presence of an alkyllithium catalyst, it is dusted with a non-staining calcium stearate or amorphous silica stabilizer.

What Is SBS Polymer Additive?
SBS (styrene-butadiene-styrene) is a linear block copolymer that combines rigid styrene blocks with flexible butadiene blocks, giving it both plastic processability and rubber-like elasticity. When blended into hot bitumen, SBS forms a continuous polymer network within the binder that improves elastic recovery, low-temperature flexibility, and high-temperature stability.
SBS modification is widely used in pavements subject to heavy traffic loading, sustained heavy-vehicle traffic, or wide service temperature ranges — conditions standard bitumen can't meet alone. The product is dusted with a non-staining calcium stearate or amorphous silica stabilizer to prevent caking and clumping, keeping plant dosing clean and consistent.
